On a dark night, scientists have documented that one can see a single candle flame flickering up to 30 miles away. Imagine the collective impact of hundreds of people shining their light to make a difference in the lives of others. Everyone has special gifts and talents that have the potential to brighten this world in some way. The nonprofits of Carroll County can certainly attest to the wonderful people in our community who give their precious time, talent and treasure to ensure that neighbors, friends, and family are able to receive the services they need to live better and healthier lives.
Since inception, Access Carroll has greatly depended upon the services of volunteers. In fact, the organization was originally built upon the shoulders of volunteers, including doctors, nurses and support staff. This new year, Access Carroll acknowledges the hundreds of volunteers and students who annually shine their light to provide a brighter future for men, women and children living right here in Carroll County. In addition to a highly specialized staff, more than 200 volunteers and students touched the lives of nearly 10,000 individuals in 2018, “lighting the way” for the most comprehensive, person-centered and integrated health care. Often visitors from near and far will be amazed at the level of service and excellence that exudes from this somewhat small semi-rural community. It’s because of the wonderful people who make it all happen!
Consider your own light this coming year and what you can do to make a difference in the life of another person. Often we don’t realize the impact that we have on others. Regardless of how seemingly small the effort or the cost may be, it could make a world of difference for someone who is suffering, in need or ready to give up. If you’re not already volunteering, learn more about opportunities to support a nonprofit organization here in Carroll County. Your light is needed! Access Carroll welcomes all types of volunteers to join our caring team of medical, dental and behavioral health staff. Volunteer services can range from direct patient care to cleaning the facility to community awareness and fundraising.
Access Carroll is a private nonprofit organization located in downtown Westminster, offering fully integrated medical, dental and behavioral health services for Carroll County residents. Integrated health services are offered full time, Monday through Friday, with expanded weekend care to provide seven-day-a-week ambulatory detox of opioids and alcohol. Strategic health partners are Carroll Hospital, Carroll County Health Department and The Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County.
