It would be both novel and much appreciated if Mr. Shoemaker would clearly state his positions and what defines the valuable "R" that he is proud to reflect behind his name. Simply broadly slandering a national party and local opponents without stating your position provides no real basis to earn a vote.

Mr. Shoemaker, what do you stand for and believe beyond that vague, lazy position of "protecting Carroll County values"? Do you believe that higher performing schools in the county raise property values and result in additional employment opportunities in the county? Do you believe in free markets which used to be a foundational Republican position or do you believe in the New Republican position of fair trade and protectionism … which, by the way, used to be a Democrat position? Do you believe that the United States should demonstrate leadership by working with our allies and valuing that role and relationship? Or do you think we should spurn and diminish our allies of 70 years to partner with our cold war adversary? What are your thoughts on how we address the opioid epidemic beyond asking people to "just say no"? How do we fund Medicare and Social Security costs with a declining birth rate without having an immigration policy beyond 'the wall'?

You see, Mr. Shoemaker, having a "R" today doesn't mean what it did pre-2016 so it is important, if you wish to earn a vote rather than get a "gimme," to define what your "R" means. Let's hope that "Team Hogan" is as successful as Larry Hogan in working with the other party. Thank you and good luck.
