Letter: BOE candidate — liberal politics have hijacked schools

My name is Mary Kowalski, and I am running for a seat on the Board of Education. I have a Master's Degree in Education from McDaniel College and 17 years of experience working in the Carroll County Public School system. I am also the parent of a recent graduate from Carroll County Public Schools. I have regularly attended and participated in Board of Commissioner and Board of Education meetings for many years. In addition, I have been involved in many community and/or school-related organizations over the years, such as the Family and School Partnership Committee, Carroll Joint Neighborhood Association, and Citizens for the Improvement of Public Education.

As I attend candidate forums and speak with people along the campaign trail, it is always a great privilege and pleasure to hear the wealth of ideas which our citizens bring to the table. The best ideas to improve our school system and our county, as always, come directly from the citizens themselves. My campaign platform is simple. I want to increase parental involvement in our schools, improve safety and security, and make certain that capital expenditures are made in a fiscally responsible manner. In addition, if I am elected, I will also focus on getting left-wing liberal politics out of the classroom and the curriculum.

Let's face it. The elected Board of Education has been hijacked by liberals who are indoctrinating our children with their ideas regarding "gender identity" and global warming. Liberals have been forcing their political ideas into our school curriculum and school climate for far too long. We need to protect our young people from those who would undermine patriotism and morality among our youth. The focus in the curriculum should be on academic excellence, not left-wing political agendas. I want to bring back quality, wholesome literature and history lessons which generally reinforce and support a sense of patriotism.

I want to take this time to say thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the campaign trail. Thank you, and I ask for your vote on June 26, 2018. Working together, we can ensure fiscal accountability, improve security, and keep the focus on academic excellence. I look forward to seeing you along the campaign trail. May God bless Carroll County and Carroll County schools.
