Letter: Commissioner candidate's opinion of teachers off the mark

I am writing to voice my concern about comments made by Kathy Fuller, who is running for a commissioner seat in District 5 (as reported in the Thursday, April 12, 2018, newspaper). I am an elementary school teacher in Carroll County. I have taught in our county for 27 years. I'm proud of my career and my dedication to the children that I have taught. To read that someone running for public office to represent my district thinks that teachers and administrators are bullies who intimidate students makes me sick. I have never bullied anyone. We teachers do not indoctrinate students. I have never brought my political viewpoints into my classroom, or tried to stifle anyone else's ideals. I resent being called a bully by someone who knows nothing about my job and how I carry out my responsibilities. The lack of respect shown to teachers is disgraceful. I live and work in Eldersburg, I pay taxes and support local businesses here. I hope that parents and other teachers in our community pay close attention to who will serve the best interests of children in our schools.
