Thanks to those who answer called for help

During this season of giving, I wanted to make sure that I offered my profound thanks to the businesses who answered a call for help while gaining nothing in return.

The Liberty High USO Club asked for donations to help us carry out our works of service, and the response was wonderful. The USO Club provides service for both active duty military and veterans in our community and abroad. We recently held a Veterans Day Celebration Breakfast and treated our guests to a full breakfast and program free of charge. We will be participating in Wreaths Across America in a few weeks as well as welcoming home troops from overseas duty. We are holding a winter clothing drive to help veterans who are in need. The list goes on and on.

The students are on fire to help and their service is most extraordinary. If not for the kindness of several businesses in our community, our works would have to be curtailed.

So thank you to Dr. Tim Passarello, Merging Drafting Solutions, E.W. Becks, Hammond Law, LLC, C & A Automotive, Eldersburg Car Care, Shannon-Baum Signs, and Freedom Realty. We are so appreciative of your kindness and hope that everyone in the community patronizes these businesses. As the adviser for this group, I can assure you that the money will be put to good use.

Helping those who give so much for all of us is the least we can do!

Don’t let Lady Justice down

Lady Justice is commonly depicted in America as a blindfolded woman carrying a sword and a set of scales symbolizing the fair and equal administration of the law without corruption, prejudice or favor.

As Special Counsel Robert Mueller concludes his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and any possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, I fear we are hurtling toward a moment where Justice and the Rule of Law in this nation will be tested as never before. Let us not forget, this nation and our democratic institutions were attacked by Russia in the 2016 election. There have been 35 indictments and five guilty pleas proving as much. Simply put, if the president knowingly received, or attempted to receive, assistance in any way from this attack carried out by the military intelligence of a foreign adversary, he is a traitor to the Constitution he swore to uphold. The Truth in this investigation is discernible. If there is anyone both political parties, indeed the American people, can trust to uncover just what the truth is free from political influence or favor, it is Robert Mueller.

The question is, if Mueller’s investigation and evidence indeed states this is the case, that the president did knowingly collude with Russian contacts to influence the election, will his supporters continue to support a traitor? That I fear is the question we will all be facing sooner than we expect.

This is not a political question. After all, our democratic institutions are only as strong as our willingness to defend them … politics be damned.

We must not let Lady Justice down.
