Thumbs up: It's been 16 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, but the community continues to remember, pay respects and honor the sacrifices made on one of the worst days in our nation's history. On Sunday afternoon, the Westminster branch of the Carroll County Public Library hosted a dedication of a Peace Pole. Westminster United Methodist Church donated the pole to the City of Westminster in memory of the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Later that day, at 7 p.m., New Windsor hosted a ceremony featuring speakers, a video presentation and the reading of the names of Maryland victims set to music. On Monday, the 16th anniversary of 9/11, several Carroll dignitaries attended an event at the Public Safety Training Center put on by the Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association. And, in what is always a moving tribute at Mount Airy's Pine Grove Chapel, a ceremony was held to commemorate the loss of Ronald Vauk and William Ruth, two Mount Airy citizens who were killed in the attack on the Pentagon. "Never Forget" is not just a slogan. It is in practice here in Carroll.
