There is no room in our community, or for any town or city in our country, to suffer acts like this. In my last column, I decried the toxic chasm separating the extreme right from the rest of America. Every day we see more and more evidence that this divide nurtures more overt and violent examples of intolerance from fringe elements. The person or persons who carried out this unjustified attack may have been some kids; maybe they were extremists on the right who wanted to intimidate the rally’s attendees. Either way, they must have known their act was illegal, dangerous and in more than one way, incendiary.
