Back in 1974, it was quite the scandal — Congressman Wilbur Mills and his “escort,” Argentinian stripper Fanne Foxe, made headlines after she jumped out of the car they were in and into the D.C. Tidal Basin. Conservative Christians didn’t give him a mulligan. Mills lost his powerful committee chairmanship and didn’t run for re-election. In the past two weeks, we discovered that during the 2016 campaign, Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 of his own money, presumably to buy her silence about her relationship with Trump. Last week, news emerged that in 2006, Trump allegedly had an affair with a former Playboy Playmate; American Media Inc., publisher of the National Enquirer, shelled out $150,000 for exclusive rights to her memoirs and then never published them. No one seems scandalized by these revelations about the president’s conduct.
