The Republican Party needs to be more than the defender of the Second Amendment and unborn babies and against tax of any kind.
I know they think Trump has done a lot more than just that. He has built a wall which is much smaller than 3,000 miles of the border and paid for by US citizens, not Mexico. The supposedly high-tech wall has been breached multiple times.
He took on China which, agreed, was a noble effort, but by most standards he lost. China continued to manipulate the value of their money and went tit for tat on tariffs which hurt US citizens more then they helped. Trump did nothing to stop China’s military expansion into international waters.
At the end of his love affair with Kim Jung-un, the North Korean dictator, had more weaponry than ever before and was no longer burdened by US forces preparing for a worst-case scenario. After stopping the Iranian nuclear deal, Iran now has more weapons grade uranium than ever before.
Getting rid of a bad climate deal with the stroke of a pen has resulted in it coming back with another stroke of a pen. The deal was a bad one for the United States but one that is needed to save life as we know it.
Let’s not forget about all of those high-paying jobs and those high balances in our 401(k)s. Where did all those high-paying jobs go? Seems when you create them quickly they disappear just as fast. Not only that, how about the cost per job? You know the trillion dollar tax cut going mostly to the rich job creators and enough to the average guy to snow him into thinking Trump really was thinking about them? This tax cut widened the gap between rich and poor so much that when the pandemic, which Trump did all he could to spread as fast as possible, the government was left with no other choice but to support them with trillions more money printed out of thin air.
In a recent blog post I likened my opening sentence to great sex. You are getting everything you ever wanted and you never want it to end. It has ended in the worst divisiveness this country has seen in a long time.
The Democrats thought that by getting rid of the dictator they could rule with impunity. They failed to consider that for four years Trump has systemically weeded out anyone who disagreed with him at all levels of government. Cutting off the head of this snake has not killed it … it has angered it.
Those true Republicans that remained were not enough to take their party back. Thus, the future of the party is doomed. In a recent poll it was found that 17% of Democrats align with Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and 17% align with Biden, 17% of Republicans are Trumpies and 17% are RINO’s.
Where is the best place to form a consensus government? The middle. Many of the Lincoln Project and moderate Democrats have found Unite America to be the way to go. If there was ever a time to form a sane third party free from nationalists and free from socialists it is now.
On another subject, I am appalled at how poorly Maryland is doing with vaccinations. A recent Times article pointed out the problem from the county’s perspective. I am in category 1C and was shocked to learn it may be summer before they get to me if the flow of vaccinations to the county continue at the current pace. My friend my age lives in Georgia and he has not only gotten his first shot he has an appointment this week to get his second shot.
The rhetoric out of Washington about the amount of shots going to each state seems to be as false under the new administration as it was under the prior.
