Shoppers Food & Pharmacy is partnering with the American Diabetes Association to bolster efforts to battle diabetes in the areas it serves by joining the organization's "Stop Diabetes" campaign, a program that supports community outreach and educational programs aimed at raising awareness of the disease.

In support of the campaign, the company will offer customers at all 56 Shoppers locations the opportunity to purchase a "Stop Diabetes" paper placard at the cash register for $1. All proceeds from the sale, which runs through Sept. 14, will be donated to the Association, whose mission is to prevent and cure diabetes while improving the lives of the nearly 30 million Americans estimated to be living with the disease. Each placard will be hung in the store where purchased, which will help to further raise awareness of the disease and recognize the customers who contribute to this important effort.

Adding to the impact of its in-store fundraiser, Shoppers representatives will also participate in "Step Out Baltimore: Walk to Stop Diabetes," a fundraising event with the goal of generating $500,000 in donations for the Association. The event will be held Oct. 5 at the Canton Waterfront Park in Baltimore.
