Westminster police lieutenant completes police training program

A Westminster Police Department officer recently graduated from a 10-week program held in Sykesville by the Northwestern University School of Police and Staff Command.

Lt. Thomas Kowalczyk, who serves as a watch commander in the Patrol Division of the department, graduated with 34 senior police officials from Maryland and surrounding states, according to a news release from the department.

The program was held Feb. 9 to April 25 at the Maryland Police Training Commission facility, according to the release. It provides upper-level college instruction on topics such as leadership, human resources, organizational behavior and resource allocation.

Students were challenged through written examinations, projects, presentations, quizzes and a staff study, according to the release. Successful graduates received six undergraduate credits from Northwestern.
