The Taylorsville-Winfield Lions awarded three 2014 South Carroll High School graduates with $1,000 scholarships at the club's July 28 meeting.

The recipients are: Avery Renshaw, who will be majoring in environmental science at Towson University; Erin Smith, who will be majoring in physical therapy at University of Virginia; and Shannon Driscoll, who will be majoring in forensic science at High Point University in North Carolina.

The scholarships are just a few of the club's ongoing projects, which include advising the Leo Club at South Carroll High School, collection of food for area food banks, providing eye exams and glasses for the needy of the community, a monthly bingo program at a local nursing home, and owning and maintaining its own Lions Park in Winfield. The park is home to several youth baseball teams. The club raises the money for its community service projects through fundraisers, including a fall and spring basket bingo and a raffle at the Winfield fire company carnival.

The Taylorsville-Winfield Lions Club meets at the Winfield fire company hall. For information on membership in the club or to attend a meeting as a guest of the club, call Lion Jerry Stroter, membership chairman, at 410-875-4072.
