Four suspects in custody after Eldersburg bank robbery

Four suspects were taken into custody within minutes after an armed bank robbery occurred in Eldersburg on Thursday, thanks to a citizen who reported the robbery as it was happening and good communication between neighboring law enforcement agencies, according to police.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, police were continuing to interview the four individuals and no charges had been filed yet, according to Sheriff Jim DeWees.

Just after noon Thursday, Oct. 15, three males entered the Susquehanna Bank, located in the 6400 block of Ridge Road in Eldersburg, according to a Carroll County Sheriff's Office news release. At least two of the men displayed handguns and left with an undisclosed amount of money, according to the release.

Dispatchers transmitted lookout information to Carroll and Baltimore county law enforcement agencies, and Baltimore County police officers located and stopped a vehicle matching the description and detained four individuals, according to the news release. Carroll Sheriff's Office investigators took the suspects into custody and stored the vehicle as evidence.

A woman who was at the drive-through of the bank saw the robbery taking place and called 911, DeWees said.

"The 911 operators were calm in dispatching information [to police from both counties] while they were on the phone with the woman who called it in as it happened in front of her," he said.

The vehicle was quickly stopped by Baltimore County police on Liberty Road heading toward Woodlawn, shortly after the incident took place, according to DeWees.

"This is a really good case of communication with law enforcement," DeWees said.

No additional information was available as of about 9:30 p.m. Anyone with additional information about this robbery is asked to contact the Carroll County Sheriff's Office at 410-386-2900, or the Anonymous TIPS Hotline at 1-888-399-TIPP.
