Carroll heeds snow warnings, faces little problems on roads

Roughly 3 inches of snow that fell across Carroll County on Tuesday posed little problems for motorists, who largely stayed home or waited for state and county snow plows to do their work.

Drivers apparently heeded warnings to either stay home or use caution this morning as both the Maryland State Police and the Carroll County Sheriff's Office reported that they responded to no crashes Tuesday morning.

Main county roads were clear by 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to county government spokeswoman Roberta Windham, and trucks are begining to widen roadways, clear cul-de-sacs and the shoulders of main roads, and remove any remaining snow on back roads. During snow storms, the county is broken up into 63 routes, and approximately 75 trucks prepare the roads with salt and brine solutions, Windham said. As snow begins to accumulate, trucks focus on main roads but won't bypass any back roads or neighborhoods that are part of their assigned route.
