Westminster man seriously injured in pedestrian-involved crash on Md. 32

A Westminster man was in serious condition at shock trauma Thursday after he was struck by a vehicle on Md. 32 in Westminster earlier in the day.

Charles Lacey Rhoten, 58, was walking south on Md. 32 near Pritts Funeral Home shortly before noon when a vehicle traveling south left the roadway and struck him, according to a news release from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack.

Witnesses told police the vehicle might have driven toward the right shoulder to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle, according to the release.

The pedestrian was thrown into a guardrail and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the release. He was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was in serious condition as of 7:30 p.m.

Md. 32 was closed for over an hour between Stoner and Bennett avenues while an accident reconstructionist and the Maryland State Police CRASH Team investigated the incident, according to the release.

No charges had been filed Thursday evening and the investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
