A Westminster man was in serious condition at shock trauma Thursday after he was struck by a vehicle on Md. 32 in Westminster earlier in the day.
Charles Lacey Rhoten, 58, was walking south on Md. 32 near Pritts Funeral Home shortly before noon when a vehicle traveling south left the roadway and struck him, according to a news release from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack.
Witnesses told police the vehicle might have driven toward the right shoulder to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle, according to the release.
The pedestrian was thrown into a guardrail and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the release. He was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was in serious condition as of 7:30 p.m.
Md. 32 was closed for over an hour between Stoner and Bennett avenues while an accident reconstructionist and the Maryland State Police CRASH Team investigated the incident, according to the release.
