A pedestrian was killed attempting to cross Md. 27 when he was struck by a car near Marston Road early Friday morning.

Bryan Joseph Shea, 31, of Sabillasville, died at the scene as a result of his injuries, according to a news release from Maryland State Police.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack responded to the crash shortly after 6 a.m. Friday. The subsequent investigation revealed Shea was trying to cross Md. 27 from the southbound shoulder and walked into the path of a northbound 2011 Mazda, driven by Michael John Koontz, 55, of Woodbine, according to police.

Koontz showed no obvious signs of impairment, according to police.

Md. 27 was shut down in both directions for approximately 2 hours after the crash. State Highway Administration personnel were also on scene to assist with the detour and road closure, according to police.
