Come out to enjoy an evening of bluegrass gospel music at Grace United Church of Christ, 49 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. The House of Joshua band will perform a variety of selections of bluegrass gospel music mixed with contemporary Christian and country. Tickets are $10 each. Children 15 and younger are free.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit Biker's Against Child Abuse, an all-volunteer non-profit organization that helps kids dealing with abuse.
According to their website, "Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of Bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. We stand ready to lend support to our wounded friends by involving them with an established, united organization."
Joe Larson, organizer of the event and lead guitar player for the band said the band performs some three to five charity events each year as part of their mission. They raise funds and awareness for the charities they choose. He said, "We picked B.A.C.A. just because one of the things that we really believe in is helping children, and I'm the father of two girls myself so that's why we thought it was a great match for us to team up with them for this charity event."
Larson and his childhood friend, Steve Ellis, originally formed House of Joshua for a one-time performance. They received so much encouragement from their audience that they decided to continue playing together.
Band members include Larson on guitar, Ellis on guitar, Chris Ellis on banjo and mandolin, Brian Banks on bass, and Harry Maben on drums. Larson's 7-year-old daughter, Aubrie is often seen singing with the band as one of the many guest performers.
Kids are invited to wear their Halloween costume to the event for tricks and treats.

The public is invited to attend a Hymn Sing at the Edgewood Church of the Brethren, 15025 New Windsor Rd, New Windsor, on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 2-3:30 p.m. Bluegrass selections will be performed by Home Comfort. The Brethren Sisters will also perform. Light refreshments will be served.
