Competitions include such activities as racing, go-to-ground, agility, obedience and trailing and locating, among others. According to Bender, Oscar's best event is go-to-ground, which simulates a hunting situation with the dog traveling through a tunnel and attempting to find a quarry at the end. The tunnel has several turns to make it more difficult. The terrier with the fastest time to the quarry is considered the winner, but must bark, scratch or whine to qualify the time. In 2015 during the national trials Oscar was awarded the go-to-ground championship certificate for his class, making him among the nation's best in that division. He finished the 30-foot-long course in 3.7 seconds.
