On Tuesday, Nov. 29, Giving Tuesday will be celebrated. This event unites charities, corporations, small businesses and individuals from all over the world.
According to a news release, last year 45,000 organizations in 71 counties celebrated this day of giving for the good of others.
NESAP plans to participate this year and has a goal of $10,000 in sponsorships and $10,000 in matching gifts from the community, per a news release. NESAP will be receiving Giving Tuesday donations from Nov. 29 through Dec. 16.
Per the release, as of Oct. 28 the sponsorships were at a total of $5,340. These donations came from local residents, businesses, churches and anonymous donations. You may check their Facebook page (NESAP Mission) for updated totals.
Donations may be made through the website at www.nesapinc.org; or by mailing a check, made payable to NESAP, to P.O. Box 831, Hampstead, MD 21074. Please mark "Giving Tuesday" on the memo line.
In an effort to raise funds for NESAP, which gives back to the community, they will be selling Merchant Discount Cards. The cards will be available for purchase at the thrift store as of Dec. 1 and are valid until Dec. 1, 2017. Cards are $5 each and $4.36 from each card purchased will benefit NESAP's assistance programs.
If any local business, individuals or organizations would like to help sell these cards, call Lynn Sheavly at the number below.
The merchants participating in this program, and offering discounts on the card, are The BBQ Equipment Store (aka Outlaw BBQ SmokeHouse), The Dutch Corner, Genova's To Go, Fortune Inn, JJ Hoffman's Creamery, Greenmount Station, Greenmount Bowl, Hampstead Diner, Illiano's J&P, Matthews Tire, Moorfoot Farms Market, Spargos, Pizza Hut, Reliable Appliance Service, and Wendy's.
Finally, a friendly reminder that NESAP is seeking donations for their 2016 Holiday Food Drive. They are seeking donations to provide Carroll County residents in need with a Thanksgiving and Christmas meal.
Some of the items that they are looking for include beef stew, canned pasta and canned meat, pasta noodles, spaghetti sauce, rice, macaroni and cheese, gravy in cans, soup, Canned vegetables, dessert mixes, and other non-perishable items. They are also accepting gift cards to Walmart or a local grocery store so that families may select the best entrée for their family.
For information regarding any of the above, call Lynn Sheavly at 443-952-0098; 410-239-6216; or visit www.nesapinc.org. NESAP is located at 1046 S. Carroll St., Hampstead.
