North Carroll roundup: Senior Center hosting trip to Badlands, Mount Rushmore
The Lineboro/Manchester Lions Club pool opened for the 60th consecutive season on May 27. The pool, in Manchester, had to undergo major maintenance improvements, and had a complete turnover in February of former volunteers. The North Carroll Senior Center is hosting a trip Sept. 14 through Sept. 23 to Mount Rushmore and the Badlands of South Dakota.

The cost per person double is $1,735; for a single, $2,035; and for a triple, $1,635. A $100 deposit is due upon registration, with the final balance being due by July 17.


Included in the cost is motor coach transportation; one night lodging in Findlay, Ohio, with dinner and a deluxe continental breakfast; one night lodging in Madison, Wisconsin, also with dinner and a breakfast; admission to the House on the Rock; one night lodging in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with dinner and breakfast; three nights lodging in Rapid City, S.D., with two dinners in the area and three breakfasts at the hotel; a chuck wagon dinner and show; visits to the Borglum Historical Center, Mt. Rushmore Memorial, and the Crazy Horse Welcome Center with a video, a self-guided tour of the museum and step on guided tour of the base of the mountain; a guided tour of the Custer State Park and Wildlife Loop Tour; visit Badlands National Park; one night lodging in Sioux Falls, S.D., with dinner and breakfast; one nights lodging in Springfield, Illinois., also with dinner and breakfast; a track tour of the Indianapolis Speedway and a night's lodging in Dayton, Ohio, with dinner and breakfast; hotel taxes, meal taxes and gratuities; and baggage handling (one bag per person for each location). Vendors sought for event

The Hampstead American Legion Auxiliary Unit 200 is preparing for its third annual "Christmas in July" event to be held from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29.

The Legion is located at 4600 Legion Lane, Hampstead.

That time of the year is hot, hot, hot. However, you will be able to set up, or peruse, the merchandise in the air-conditioned hall. Vendors are being sought for the event and spaces are $15 each.

This year will also feature a tented area outside, alongside the ramp to the inside for those that want to be outside, but under cover.

Vendors may set up early on Friday afternoon or evening, or after 7 a.m. but must be complete their setup prior to 8 a.m.

The event benefits the American Legion Auxiliary and will support programs for veterans and their families.

There is so much going on not only in our community, but there is a lot happening at NESAP as well.

The NESAP Challenge has concluded and after everything was calculated, the total raised by sponsors and donors was $28,979.09, and 8,123 pieces of nonperishable food for their food pantry.

Orioles tickets fundraiser: NESAP will be continuing their sale of Orioles tickets for the July 23 game until June 23. The game, against the Houston Astros, begins at 1:35 p.m.; and seats are in the lower reserve sections 75 and 77, along the third base line. Tickets are $24 each and $5 from each ticket will go to NESAP.


Around town: Twice a month (except June), NESAP will have a table at the Hampstead Farmers Market and will be selling their remaining Community Discount Cards and their Boscov Coupons. In addition, NESAP will be present at the once-a-month outdoor movie event at Manchester Baptist Church. Movie nights will be held July 8, Aug. 12, and Sept. 9, with activities and food starting at 6:30 p.m., and the movie starts at 8:30 p.m. The church is located at 2933 Manchester Baptist Church Road, Manchester.

The NESAP Food Pantry needs donations of the following: jelly, applesauce, canned pasta, hamburger helper, Ramen noodles, tomato sauce, diapers (size 5 and 6), baby wipes, shampoo, and laundry detergent.

In addition, NESAP is starting collections of items for the Back to School Assistance Program, and needs the following before August: backpacks, three-ring binder, 3x3 Post-It notes, pencil top erasers, 3-holded folders with pockets, with and without prongs (blue, green, red, purple, orange, and yellow), large glue sticks, highlighters, thin markers, dry erase markers, spiral and composition notebooks, wide-ruled paper, large canvas pencil cases with holes for a three-ring binder, red and blue pens, rulers, and USB flash drives.

Legion golf tourney teeing off next month

The Hampstead American Legion Post 200 will be hosting its 14th annual golf tournament on Friday, July 28, at Oakmont Green Golf Course in Hampstead. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. with tee off at 1 p.m.

The event, to be held rain or shine, is open to the public. The entry fee is $85 per person and includes greens fees, cart, dinner, drinks on the course and range balls. Checks should be made payable to American Legion Post 200. Seniors 62 years old and older will tee off from senior tees. The format is Captains Choice – Best Ball. The dinner menu will consist of fried chicken, potato salad, fruit salad, rolls, chips, pretzels, soda, beer, and bottled water. here will be prizes including longest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest and hole in one contests.

All entries must be received by July 21; and walk-ins will be accepted but will be paired with others. There are also opportunities for those that would like to sponsor a hole for the tournament.
