A special treat for families will be A Haunted Party, an event held at noon Oct. 31 and Nov. 7. Children will be invited to meet the Addams family, make a spooky Halloween craft and enjoy delicious snacks.

Haunted party tickets are $20 per person and include early admission seating to the show. Children age 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older, and that adult must also have a ticket for the haunted party.

Tickets for the party are limited in number and are only available through the www.lhsdramaclub.com website.

Drama teacher Christina Hughes is directing "The Addams Family." Hughes has been the assistant director or co-director on many previous Liberty shows, and is now taking the helm of the Liberty drama program.

"This show picks up with Wednesday [Addams] as a very young adult who has fallen in love with someone normal," Hughes said. "It's a fun show, and I love how much history there is to this."

Hughes is referring to the history of Charles Addams' single-panel cartoons which first appeared in 1940 and were often on the pages of the The New Yorker magazine. The show also incorporates history with the appearance of the Addams ancestors, who return from the grave in period costumes.

"The Addams Family" cast includes senior Jacob Fischer as Gomez, junior Lauren Bishop as Morticia, senior Julie Creutzer as Wednesday, freshman Seth Larner as Pugsley, senior Patrick Owings as Grandma, junior Wil Clancy as Uncle Fester, and senior Jordan Spencer as Lurch.

Sophomore Jack Patterson plays Lucas Beineke, Wednesday's love interest, with senior Drew Pieranunzi playing his father, Mal, and senior Audrey Weise playing his mother, Alice.

Portraying "The Addams Family" characters has been both challenging and fun for the actors.

"It's a challenge playing someone who is so much opposite from my personality," Creutzer said, "but it's fun playing someone so dark and twisted."

For Bishop, playing Morticia has been "extremely intimidating."

"She emanates so much power with such simplicity — it's awesome," she said.

Spencer said he is "having a blast" playing Lurch.

"I have to be completely unanimated, but full of life at the same time," he said.

"I like to think of her as the relative who came over for a Christmas party and never left," said Owings, referring to his Grandma Addams character. "I usually play really absurd characters, so this is right up my alley, but it's been a challenge, though."

Come out and enjoy this story of love on the far side. "The Addams Family" can be found in Liberty High School's Schnorr Auditorium, at 5855 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg.
