The Carroll Hospital Foundation awarded scholarships totaling $11,500 to seven students to help them advance their education.
The Libamn Nursing Scholarship was awarded to Laura Colvin, of Hampstead, Marta Cruz-Alicea, of Westminster, and Brittany Jackson, of Manchester. Each recipient was awarded $2,000 to cover tuition, books and fees and Carroll Community College for their pursuit of a degree as registered nurses. The scholarship was established in 2003 by Frank Herbert Libman.
The Scholarship for Dependents of Associates was awarded to Emily Redmond, of Taneytown. She received $2,000 toward her studies for a computer science and business degree at Gettysburg College. The scholarship was established in 2006 with a gift from Dr. and Mrs. Michael Kane and is awarded to children of employees at Carroll Hospital or its affiliates.
The Carroll Hospital Associate Scholarship was awarded to Cari King, of New Windsor and Madison Zent-Burton, of Westminster. King, who works as a unit secretary and supplemental patient observer at the hospital, received $500 toward her studies at Pennsylvania State University; Zent-Burton, who works as a patient care technician at the hospital, also was awarded a $500 check toward her studies at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Launched in 2008, the scholarship is funded by Drs. Binu Chacko, Dineshkumar Kalaria, Kiran and Radhika Kuna, Natvarlal Rajpara, and Suresh and Sushma Sidh.
The Virginia Minnick Auxiliary Scholarship for dependents of associates was awarded to Hayden Shaw, the son of Timna Shaw, a physical therapist at the hospital. He received $2,500 toward his studies at Carroll Community College.
