Bring your sweetheart and your sweet tooth to Mount Airy's first Main Street Chocolate Crawl on Friday and Saturday. Many Main Street businesses will be staying open later for the free festivities this Valentine's Day weekend.

"We can't wait to see who comes out — everyone loves chocolate," said Melissa Hoyle, Mount Airy Main Street's community development coordinator.

Hoyle hopes the event will draw more business downtown this weekend.

Deja Vu Boutique, Elegant Style Boutique & Design, Firehouse Pottery & Arts, George's Girls Jewelry and Repair, The Hive, St. James Thrift Shop, Cryin' Johnnies and Superfoods on Main will offer homemade sweets, chocolate giveaways, wine and in-store specials on both days.

Browning Reagle Insurance and Weichert Realtors will participate on Feb. 13 and stay open until 8 p.m.

"We will be offering free gourmet chocolates, heart-shaped homemade cookies, pink lemonade and red wine," said Keri Roberson, a Blossom and Basket Boutique florist. The boutique will be open until 8 p.m.

Laurienzo Brick Oven Cafe will feature chocolate in several presentations. They will offer craft beers with chocolate notes, chocolate martinis and chocolate dessert pizza for the Valentine's weekend. The restaurant will be open until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

"This event will be lots of fun," said Butch Laurienzo, co-owner of Laurienzo Brick Oven Cafe. "It's a great little promotion for the block."

Concetta's Main Street Bistro will be open until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Betty Lou Old Fashioned Soft Pretzels will be giving away chocolate fudge cake pops. SK Printing will be offering a 10 percent discount on all sales Saturday from 10 to 2 p.m.

A Do or Dye Salon and Day Spa will be offering a "Blow Out" for $20 or a combination of "Blow Out and Sexy Eyes" make-up application for $50 on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. The spa will also be celebrating Valentine's Day all month by offering Champagne and Roses massages, facials and pedicure specials.

The Mount Airy Arts Alliance will present "Love Letters," a play starring Kiersten Harris and Scott Rolle. The play centers on two characters who grew up together and went their separate ways but continue to share confidences through their letters. Call 301-606-5890 or email shorsfall@mtairyartsalliance.org for tickets.
