Hospital film and discussion on 'Being Mortal'

Carroll Hospital is hosting a special film screening and discussion event on Wednesday, an opportunity to reflect on the meaning and practicalities of our own mortality.

The PBS "Frontline" documentary "Being Mortal" features surgeon and author Atul Gawande as he investigations the end of life experience for patients and their physicians. The hospital will host a screening of the film 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, in the Shauck Auditorium within the hospitals East Pavilion, 291 Stoner Ave., Westminster.

A panel discussion will follow the screening and will include health care professionals such as Regina Bodnar, executive director of Carroll Hospice, and Dr. John Middleton, the medical director there.

A second screening and discussion event will be held in the fall, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in the Mount Airy Health & Wellness Pavilion at 504 E. Ridgeville Blvd. in Mount Airy.

Both events are free and open to the public. Registration is preferred, but not required and those interested can register or ask questions by calling 410-871-8000.
