Milk waste byproduct spill closes part of Md. 140

A portion of Md. 140 was closed in Taneytown on Tuesday morning after a tractor-trailer began leaking milk waste byproduct onto the road.

Emergency crews responded to the incident at about 10:20 a.m. and found the truck leaking an unknown material onto the road, according to Taneytown Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Mike Glass.

The liquid had expanded inside the tanker because of heat and began overflowing, Glass said, and once it was determined the material wasn't hazardous, dirt was used to control its flow.

The section of road was closed for about one hour while the spill was cleaned, according to Glass.
