The preliminary investigation showed a Honda driven by Elisha Josue Rivera, 21, of Eldersburg, was traveling south on Md. 32 and ran a red light, according to the news release, striking a Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by a juvenile female with an adult male passenger and a juvenile male passenger that was traveling west on Piney Ridge through the intersection.

The collision sent the pickup into a marked Sheriff's Office Dodge Charger, driven by Master Deputy Kyle Barget, which was traveling east on Piney Ridge Parkway preparing to turn left onto Md. 32, according to the release.

The male juvenile passenger in the Silverado, who was not identified by police, was taken by ambulance to Carroll Hospital as a precaution. Barget was flown to Shock Trauma with non life-threatening injuries. Both the driver and adult passenger in the Chevrolet, as well as the driver of the Honda, refused any medical assistance at the scene.

Sheriff Jim DeWees said it was fortunate the collision did not occur at high speeds.

No signs of impairment were observed during the initial investigation, according to the sheriff's office. Any potential charges will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation, which is ongoing, the release states.

Md. 32 was shut down for more than an hour for the investigation and to clear the vehicles.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked call 410-386-5900, or the Anonymous TIPS Hotline at 1-888-399-TIPP.
