The auditorium at Liberty High School might get creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky — and funny — when the school presents its fall production of the "The Addams Family," a musical comedy.
Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday. Shows will be held in Liberty High's Schnorr Auditorium located at 5855 Bartholow Road in Eldersburg.
"Students have put a lot of work into the production — they have designed everything, they have choreographed everything, students made most of the costumes, students are doing the special effects and the sound," said Christina Hughes, drama teacher at Liberty High and director of the production.
The show provides a comedic twist to the source material. In this version, Wednesday Addams falls in love with a normal boy from Ohio named Lucas. Concerned that her family will not accept him, Wednesday confides in her father Gomez to keep her secret, which he has to keep from his wife Morticia, something he has never done before. In a turn of events, the Addams family hosts Lucas' family for dinner and "hilarity ensues," according to a news release from Carroll County Public Schools.
The production is based on the Broadway musical "The Addams Family."
Tickets for the production are $10 in advance, $12 at the door and $15 for early admission seating. Advance seating tickets are encouraged for anyone in need of assistance or any accomodations prior to the show opening, according to CCPS information.
Those who would like to join the cast for A Haunted Party at noon on Saturday, may purchase tickets for $20, which includes early admission seating. Activities for children will be provided. Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by an adult who is a party ticket holder, according to CCPS information.
Tickets can be purchased online at lhsdramaclub.com, at Liberty Preferred Insurance — 2028 Liberty Road, second floor — or in the lobby of Liberty High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"We hope that people will join us," Hughes said. "It's just a really fun, hilarious way to keep Halloween going throughout the week."
