Local radio legend Johnny Dark has died

Legendary local radio broadcaster Johnny Dark has died.

Family members said Thursday morning that Dark had passed away due to cancer, ABC2 News reported. He was 82 years old.

Dark had been on the air in Maryland for more than 50 years, including 30 years at Baltimore's WCAO AM station. In 1964, Dark introduced the Beatles at their Baltimore Civic Center concert, according to the Carroll Media Center.

Most recently, Dark had been a disc jockey at Westminster's WTTR a gig that lasted from 2010 until January, when The Baltimore Sun reported a dispute with station management led to his resignation.

WTTR representatives declined to comment on Dark's passing.
