Nominations accepted for public service award

The office of Comptroller Peter Franchot is accepting nominations from every county for the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award.

Established in 2012 to honor the legacy of public service left by the former comptroller and governor, the award is presented in each of Maryland's 23 counties and Baltimore to individuals and organizations with an unwavering commitment to helping people, according to a news release from Franchot's office.

Award recipients will be selected on their demonstration of improving the community; promptly responding to a citizen problem through effective government intervention; directly aiding those most vulnerable in society; or establishing a public/private partnership to improve the lives of fellow Marylanders.

Franchot will personally present the award to each winner starting in April. The 2015 nomination forms must be received by March 20. Visit http://comptroller.marylandtaxes.com/Public_Services/Agency_Information/Office_of_the_Comptroller/Comptroller_Initiatives/ for more details.
