A carport fire turned into a brush fire after the flames spread to a few surrounding trees Thursday.
A fire broke out in a carport attached to a house on Green Mill Road in Finksburg at about 2:12 p.m., according to a news release from the State's Fire Marshal Office.
About 50 firefighters responded to the fire, which took about 45 minutes to control, according to the release.
The fire started in the carport, according to the release, but spread to a pine tree near it, Bouch said.
The pine tree went up in flames and, because of its height, spread embers to a couple of trees and brush around it, setting them ablaze, Bouch said.
The fire caused about $30,000 worth of structure damage to the carport, with about $5,000 of damage to items inside, according to the release.
Bouch said the carport might be salvageable instead of a total loss.
There were no injuries and no one was home at the time. A neighbor called to report the fire, Bouch said.
As of 7 p.m. Thursday, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
