82-year-old woman killed in Md. 140 crash

An 82-year-old woman was killed and 69-year-old man injured in a crash on Md. 140 on Wednesday night.

Jean Louis Griffin, of Westminster, was killed in an accident just east of Dede Road around 6:15 p.m., according to a Maryland State Police press release. She was driving a 2006 Toyota Camry.

Richard Leo Hamilton, of Westminster, was injured and flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to the release. He was driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata.

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center's media relations director Michael Schwartzberg, Hamilton was in fair condition Thursday.

Md. 140 was closed for approximately 31/2 hours Wednesday after the crash and traffic was rerouted.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Hamilton was traveling eastbound on Md. 140 and, for unknown reasons, traveled over a continuous left-turn lane and into ongoing traffic on westbound Md. 140, striking Griffin.
