The Carroll County Farm Museum will host a Civil War Winter Encampment on Saturday, Dec. 3. The encampment will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the museum's grounds, at 500 S. Center St. in Westminster.
According to Farm Museum manager Joanne Weant, the museum's first holiday encampment was last year and it was "extremely popular with both the re-enactors and our visitors."
Commanding colonel Bill McElwee helped the Farm Museum organize the event.
"We continue to do these type of events to educate the public on one of the most defining chapters in our history," McElwee said. "This year we will show the ways the soldiers spent their time during Christmas when they were away from their families."
McElwee said the soldiers will decorate their tents and have a tree that the public can assist in decorating. There will also be a mini-battle, a pay muster, and a mail call where the soldiers receive letters and packages from home.
The cost is $4 for seniors, $5 for adults and $10 for families. For more information, call 800-654-4645.
