Gov. Larry Hogan has announced the 21 recipes that will be featured at the 10th annual Buy Local Cookout. Lamb, produced by Ginger Myers of Evermore Farms in Westminster, will be an ingredient in the grilled Persian-style kofta BBQ with tomato shirazi and mujaddara salads offered during the event.
"The Buy Local Cookout is a great opportunity to showcase the many businesses that support our farmers through buying local — from grocery store chains, to distributors, restaurants and institutions," said Gov. Hogan in a prepared statement. "Buying local gives consumers fresher, more nutritious and better-tasting food, and it helps to keep Maryland's agricultural industry strong, diverse and sustainable. I thank all of the talented chefs who submitted recipes this year."
According to a Maryland Department of Agriculture news release, recipes were selected based on availability of ingredients, geographic representation, maximum use of local ingredients and creativity. All recipe submissions will be published in the "Recipes from the 2017 Buy Local Cookout" cookbook.
The Buy Local Cookout is an invitation-only event set for July 20 at the Government House in Annapolis.
