Having re-imagined Homer's famous myth, the South Carroll High School Stagelighters are presenting "The Odyssey," which follows the Greek hero Odysseus as he valiantly seeks to return to his homeland — and to his wife and child — after a long war.

Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, had spent 10 years fighting at Troy and his epic journey back took him another 10 years. Meanwhile, his family did not know what had become of him.

"'The Odyssey' is a timeless tradition that we have endeavored to present in a new way by incorporating elements of music, choreography and lighting," said co-director Caitlin Adolph. "We will transport the audience into ancient Greek times and make them feel like they are traveling with Odysseus across the Aegean [Sea]."

Adolph and Marcia Franklin are directing this production, with assistant directing credit to Alyson Marks.

The lead actors for this play are: Odysseus, William Babin; The Stranger, Federico Alvarado; Penelope, Tori Prestianni; Athena, Marissa Mowers; Telemachus, Jacob Miller; Circe, Elizabeth Larsen; and Calypso, Jordan Joyce.

Roslyn Heald, co-head of the props committee, said, "I'm excited to assist the actors and audience in their immersion into the show through our use of props and scenery."

Opening night for the production was Nov. 6. The Stagelighters' last three showings of "The Odyssey" will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets are available at the door or online at http://www.scstagelighters.com/tickets.html. Adult tickets are $10 each and tickets for high school students and children are $8 each.
