Fire company plans benefit golf tournament

The Winfield fire company will have the 20th Anniversary Oscar and Ricky Warner Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament Sept. 5 at Glade Valley Golf Club, with all proceeds benefiting the fire company.

Oscar and Ricky Warner Sr. were father and son members of the fire company, and responsible for numerous construction improvements to the station and carnival grounds.

Event organizer Ricky Warner Jr. said, "Please come out and join us for a fun-filled day of golf, great prizes and food, but please hurry as there are a limited number of teams available."

The tournament begins at 8 a.m. The cost is $100 per golfer or $400 per foursome and includes golf, assorted beverages on the course, and a luncheon and awards ceremony afterward.

The luncheon, at the golf club, will feature pit beef, pit turkey, fried chicken, sides, beer, water and soda. A cash bar will be available, too.

Awards will be presented for closet to pin; longest drive for men, women and senior; and first- through fifth-place teams.

You can even win a new vehicle and other valuable prizes with a hole in one, courtesy of Jeff Barnes Chevrolet/Oldsmobile in Eldersburg.

There will also be various door prizes, donated by local businesses.

To sponsor a hole, the cost is $100.

The registration and payment deadline is Aug. 29.

Glade Valley Golf Club is at 10502 Glade Road, Walkersville.
