A Taneytown man has been charged with assault and reckless endangerment after he allegedly drove a vehicle into his house while under the influence of alcohol, hurting a man sleeping on the couch inside.
Andrew Joseph Currence, 22, of the 500 block of Daisy Drive, is charged with one count each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and alcoholic beverage-intoxicated and did endanger, as well as several alcohol-related traffic charges, according to electronic court records. He was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $100,000 bond as of 4 p.m. Monday.
Taneytown police responded to the incident just before 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, according to Taneytown Police Lt. Brian Costello.
The man sleeping on the couch, who was not identified, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for a head injury suffered in the incident, according to Costello. An update on the victim's condition was not available by 4 p.m. Monday.
