County law enforcement will be playing up the stereotype of cops loving doughnuts with a twist this weekend as several will spend more than 24 hours on the roof of the Westminster Dunkin' Donuts to fundraise for Special Olympics Maryland.
Chief Jeff Spaulding, of the Westminster Police Department; Capt. Jim DeWees and Lt. Patrick McCrory, of the Maryland State Police; and State's Attorney-elect Brian DeLeonardo will participate in Cops on Rooftops from 6 a.m. Saturday until noon Sunday, according to Spaulding.
Customers and the general public are invited to visit the volunteers to raise both funds and awareness for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Maryland, according to a news release from the Westminster Police. Other officers and Special Olympics athletes will greet customers inside and outside the store.
The group's collective fundraising goal is $8,600 this year, according to the release. To donate, visit http://www.copsonrooftops.com and donate to the Westminster location.
Dunkin' Donuts locations in Laurel, Hyattsville and California, Maryland will also participate, according to the release.
