Changes could be coming to the county airport.

The Board of Commissioners was briefed on Thursday on a request by county staff to put out a Request for Proposal to assess interest in business development at the Carroll County Regional Airport.

The airport, Jeff Castonguay, director of the Department of Public Works, and Jeff Topper, deputy director of the department, said, has space for additional development that could help support the county's aviation business and help strengthen the county's enterprise fund.

Restored WWII aircraft will land in Westminster Friday for the annual World War II WIngs of Freedom Tour.

All of the site's hangers are currently fully leased, Topper said. If approved, the county would solicit private investment on airport property that would encourage more development at the site. After a period of time in which the property would initially be leased to the developer, it would revert to county possession, Topper said.

If there is enough interest in the project, work could be underway within about a year, Castonguay said.
