The meeting room at the Westminster branch of the Carroll County Public Library was transformed into a giant, life-sized Candy Land game board Friday morning.
Children advanced from one colored foam square to another as library Children's Services Supervisor Ghislaine Hockensmith tossed a large, cardboard die with primary colors on each side.
Cellophane lollipops larger than the children lined Lollipop Lane, construction paper gumdrops were strewn along the Gum Drop Pass and aluminum Hershey's Kisses the size of cantaloupes awaited children as they made their way through the Chocolate Swamp on their way to the Candy Castle. It was extremely popular.
"Honestly, I have no idea how many [showed up] — the room was packed," Hockensmith said. "It was dozens at least."
It was the third time the library has set up its giant Candy Land game, according to Hockensmith, and the branch has also set up a life-sized Chutes and Ladders game board in the past. She said the plan is to bring the game back again during next winter break.
"We take a temporary break from story time in the winter and this is nice because it's something to do for the kids who are on winter break and looking for something to do," Hockensmith said.
