No injuries reported in school bus fire

No one was injured when a school bus en route to Liberty High School caught fire on Md. 32 near Bollinger Mill Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency personnel responded to the incident at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a spokesman from the Maryland State Police Westminster Barrack.

No students were on the bus at the time, according to police.

Carroll County Public Schools spokeswoman Carey Gaddis said the bus was on its way to Liberty High School. A second bus was dispatched to pick up students, causing a 35 to 40 minute delay.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called to investigate, and traffic was being diverted around the area as of 3:30 p.m., according to police.

An investigator was on the scene by 3:30 p.m., according to Bruce Bouch, spokesman for the fire marshal's office.

Gaddis said the fire appeared to have started in the rear wheel and spread to the body of the bus.
