I do believe that some schools should close due to declining enrollment. That being said, I do not believe the right schools were closed, based on the needs of our students. You should not close a school in good condition if you have others in need of major repair. I cannot say which schools should have closed, because I was not supplied with all of the data, but to close schools, leaving extremely high cost repairs in the system is not fiscally responsible. Since I do not have children in the school system, I do not have any ties to any particular district. I also feel like if the numbers add up and the decision has to be made to close a school, it does not matter what district it is in. As long as all factors were considered and it is the best fiscally responsible plan in place, I would have no problem making a tough decision regarding school closures.
