Within the past eight months, Carroll County has announced that a handful of businesses will relocate to or expand operations in Carroll.
Over the next few days, the Carroll County Times will profile three of these businesses, beginning on Sunday with Fuchs North America.
Advanced Biotechnologies Inc. is currently in the process of relocating its headquarters to the former Friendship School in Eldersburg, according to a news release from the Carroll County Department of Economic Development. The company is expected to complete the move to Eldersburg on Oct. 1.
Advanced Biotechnologies Inc., founded in 1983, is a biotechnology firm that specializes in viral reagents, electron microscopy services and infectious disease antigens. The company has about 20 to 25 employees, according to the release.
In addition to Advanced Biotechnologies, Carlisle Etcetera LLC and Fuchs North America also announced additions to the Carroll County economy.
Carlisle and Etcetera, two women's clothing brands owned by Tom James Co., announced in January that they will open a new national distribution center in Westminster, according to the release. The brands are relocating from New York.

The Tom James Co. also announced that it will expand its Westminster based English American Tailoring Co., a men's apparel facility, according to the release.
Over the next five years, the companies plan to add an additional 75 employees in Carroll. The English American Tailoring Co. already employs about 380 full-time employees in the county, according to the release.
Fuchs North America, currently located in Owings Mills, will relocate to the North Carroll Business Park in Hampstead. After purchasing 20 acres in the area, Fuchs is planning a new corporate headquarters to include a research and development, and culinary center; state-of-the-art production facility; and quality control and testing labs.
Fuchs currently employs about 170 people and credited steady growth to its decision to seek a larger location to expand its operations, the release states.
Fuchs plans to open its Hampstead location in 2016.
Already one of the county's biggest employers, Penguin Random House LLC announced in April that it will also expand its Westminster operations. The 1.2 million-square-foot operations center will receive a multiyear investment upgrade, including a mezzanine and new equipment to support expanded operations. Penguin Random House's employees are responsible for shipping more than 1 million books and audio titles to North American retailers every day, according to the release.
