The Carroll County Agriculture Center will host their first Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, May 6. The Shipley Arena will house a variety of crafters and artists, and food will be available all day from the High Ridge and Gunpowder 4-H clubs.

"We modeled it after other craft shows that have taken place here," said Heather Kuykendall, assistant to the general events manager.

Sam Gunby, of Manchester, will sell scenic photography including lighthouses, old mills, waterfalls, steam trains and animals.

"I'm hoping to see a good crowd and I hope people are interested in what I do," Gunby said. "I think it will be a good place to pick up Mother's Day gifts."

Linda Jacobson, of Reisterstown, will be selling concrete leaves at the festival.

"It all started with my passion for gardening and love of nature," Jacobson said. "While attending a nursery trade show, I saw some leaves cast in concrete by the University of Maryland art department and thought them so beautiful. Several years later, I had some very large gourd leaves growing in my garden and I thought I would give it a try. I really enjoy working with concrete and love how each leaf is unique."

Jacobson said her supply is limited so she is very selective about the shows in which she participates.

"I'm excited about having a new venue," Jacobson said. "I know some of the artists that will be there and they're all really good. It's also nice to have an indoor venue with air conditioning."

Artalicious owner Lisa Katz, of Eldersburg, will be selling upcycled and silversmithed jewelry.

"There will be a lot of vendors there with a lot of variety in the types of crafts and arts they're selling," Katz said. "It's a great time to get your gifts for Mother's or Father's Day. I think it's always better to get something original and handmade."
