Megan M. Harrison, of Hampstead, was selected to serve as a peer mentor at Washington College, in Chestertown, during the 2014-2015 academic year.
The college's Peer Mentor Program begins during orientation and continues throughout the first semester, and is intended to ease the transition of incoming freshmen to Washington College. The primary goals of the program are to ensure that each new student has an upper-class student from whom they can seek assistance and help them become well acquainted with the campus and other students.
New students are assigned to a group of 10 to 15 other students who likely share a first-year writing or English class. Every group is led by a peer mentor, an upper-class student who has displayed leadership ability and a willingness to help other students.
Peer mentors are to serve as positive role models and acquaint all new students to Washington College's structure, services and culture.
Harrison is also a member of the English and psychology honor societies, Sigma Tau Delta and Psi Chi, respectively. She is a member of two musical groups on campus, team captain of her club field hockey team, coach for the Kent County Recreation field hockey program and an employee in the Campus Events office.
Harrison, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in psychology, is a 2012 graduate of North Carroll High School.
