Cancer center receives radiation oncology accreditation

The William E. Kahlert Regional Cancer Center, located on the Carroll Hospital campus, has received accreditation in radiation oncology by the American College of Radiology. The three-year accreditation demonstrates the center's ability to provide the highest level of quality and radiation safety that meet nationally accepted standards of care.

Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer, either to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient's pain.

To achieve accreditation, the center underwent an evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists, who assessed the facility's patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
