A man is charged with second-degree assault for allegedly punching an emergency responder during transport to the Carroll Hospital Center.

Michael Jay Ross, 48, of no fixed address, was being held at Carroll County Detention Center Monday on $15,000 bond for two counts of second-degree assault, one count of disorderly conduct, one count of disturbing the peace, and two counts of alcohol beverage intoxication endangering the safety of another, according to electronic court files.

An officer from the Westminster Police Department was sent to Carroll Hospital June 13 to meet an employee from the Reese Volunteer Fire Department who reported he was assaulted by Ross during transport from Westminster, according to charging documents.

The medic told the officer that Ross allegedly punched him in the right side of his face and knocked off his glasses, according to the documents.

The medic told the officer Ross had fallen prior to transport and cut his face because he was intoxicated and the officer observed that Ross had a cut on the left side of his face and was bleeding, according to the documents.
