Gaithersburg man arrested, charged with sex abuse of a minor

A Gaithersburg man was arrested Feb. 10 in connection with a 2012 sex abuse incident involving a child.

Gerson Adonias Rosales, 23, was charged with one count of second-degree assault, one count of sex abuse of a minor and one count of third-degree sex offense, according to electronic court records.

He is currently being held on $75,000 bail, which remained unchanged after a bail review Feb. 11 and a second review Tuesday. He remained at the Carroll County Detention Center, as of 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to electronic court records.

Rosales is accused of sexually abusing the child during a gathering July 30, 2012. The child told her parents, who confronted Rosales, according to a statement of charges from August 2012. Rosales did not deny the abuse and instead apologized, according to the statement.

A complaint was made on July 30, 2012, to the Westminster Police Department and the case was staffed by the Carroll County State's Attorney's Office on Aug. 3, 2012, according to the statement of charges.

It looks like the warrant was issued in 2012 but was not served until Feb. 10, 2016, said Cpl. Jonathan Light, spokesman for the Carroll County's Sheriff's Office. The State's Attorney's Office could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Rosales on March 9.
