A Westminster man is charged with assault for allegedly holding a knife to his mother's throat during a disagreement over the man she is dating.
Jonathan Alexander Rodriguez, 21, of the unit block of Sullivan Avenue, is charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and alcoholic beverage intoxication engangering the safety of another, according to electronic court files.
Rodriguez is being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $50,000 bond as of 4 p.m. Thursday.
Westminster Police officers responded to Rodriguez's residence at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a subject with a knife threatening another person, according to charging documents. An officer met with the occupants of the apartment and Rodriguez was identified as the suspect.
Officers used an interpreter service — no one present spoke English — to learn that Rodriguez was unhappy with the person his mother was dating and after consuming alcohol he grabbed a kitchen knife and held it to her throat, threatening to kill her, according to the charging documents.
