A Sykesville man is charged with second-degree assault for allegedly choking a woman during an argument.

Gregory Michael Pickett, 20, of the 1800 block of Bennett Road, was released from the Carroll County Detention Center on Tuesday on $7,500 unsecured bond, according to electronic court files.

Police were sent to the 6000 block of Oakland Mills Road at about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday for a report of an assault, according to charging documents.

A Baltimore Environmental Police officer was first on the scene and informed the responding deputy from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office that the suspect, identified as Pickett, had fled on foot but later returned to the scene and was detained by the officer, according to the documents.

The alleged victim told police she and Pickett argued and he placed his hands around her neck and shoved her against a wall, according to the documents. A witness allegedly told police he heard screaming and saw Pickett grab the victim around the neck and put her in a choke hold.
