A Mount Airy woman was charged with driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license after police stopped her for speeding Thursday night and she appeared intoxicated.
Eden Adele Martin, 24, of the 18700 block of Penn Shop Road, is charged with driving under the influence, DUI per se, driving while impaired, negligent driving, speeding and driving on a suspended license, according to electronic court files.
Martin was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $10,000 bond as of 4 p.m. Friday.
A Carroll County sheriff's deputy stopped Martin's car at about 10 p.m. Thursday after he saw her traveling 70 miles per hour near Md. 144 and Bennett Branch Road in Mount Airy, according to charging documents.
The deputy identified Martin as the driver from her license and saw that her eyes were bloodshot and watery, according to the documents. He also noticed the odor of alcohol and saw several 24-ounce beer cans in the passenger area.
When asked if she had been drinking, Martin said, "Not enough," according to the documents, and told the deputy she drank a shot of vodka 20 minutes before the traffic stop.
The deputy asked Martin to step out of the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests, which she performed poorly, according to the documents. A preliminary breath test showed Martin's blood-alcohol concentration was 0.20, more than double Maryland's legal limit of 0.08.
Martin was placed under arrest and transported to the detention center's central booking unit.
